St David’s Day Tea Dance
Cymmer Ward Communities First will be holding a St.
David’s Day Tea Dance at Trehafod Community Hall, this
event will take place on the 1st march 1pm –3pm.
This event will be a celebration to all things Welsh
I.e. Food and Drink.
Please come and join in with a fun afternoon

Summer Holiday Programme
This helpful brochure is packed full with activities
for 5 to 18 year olds during the summer holidays, with
many activities being FREE of charge. Will be coming

Bridges Into Work
Bridges into work is a European Funded project which
helps to support local people to gain skills and
confidence to help them move towards work. If you are
not in full time education and are unemployed the team
will help you to complete an individual Learning Action
Plan which will lead you to a range of FREE course,
which could include IT, Presentation Skills, Confidence
Building, Vocational Training and also more Formal

Support is available to all unemployed Cymmer ward
residents who are either in receipt of incapacity
benefit, employment support allowance, sever disablement
allowance, income support or those who receive no
benefits. If you want 2 work, want 2 train, want 2
volunteer or just want 2 gain new skills of confidence

Body Blast & Keep Fit
Complete all over body workout sessions with a
variety of exercises and fitness techniques. The
sessions are for all levels and abilities and aim to
promote healthy heart and lungs, provide muscle toning
and encourage strength and endurance, decrease risk of
developing type 2 diabetes, improve self esteem and feel
more confident. It’s also good fun and a chance to meet
new people. The sessions are £1.50 and are held at St.
John’s Church Hall, Cymmer.

Sunday Morning Cycle Rides are back
Come and join us for the best way of seeing our
local countryside and getting some exercise. Communities
First have organised a series of led cycle rides from
THE RHONDDA HERITAGE PARK MUSEUM, TREHAFOD to go around
the Rhondda and Pontypridd areas. The rides are for
families (Children over 11yrs) and individuals and you
don’t even need a bike as they are provided for a £2.
Per adult and £1. Per child. All we ask is that you are
competent on a bike and in good health.

Community Notice Board The new community notice board is conveniently
placed in Cymmer between Glynfach Road and High Street,
just at the start of the path running along the new
section of road to Porth. The board is used to let
everyone know about local community groups, meetings,
courses etc. If you have any posters you would like to
put on display then please contact the office.

Heritage Cycle Hire
Heritage Cycle Hire is based at the Rhondda Heritage
Park museum in Trehafod and offers adult and children
mountain bikes, helmets etc. for hire at reasonable
prices. From Trehafod you can explore the Celtic Trail
to Pontypridd and the Taff Trail, or go North and join
the trail to Maerdy and discover more of the beauty in
our local environment. There are trails suitable for all
ages, all abilities, for the experienced and the novice.
Hire is ONLY available for families and groups. Lead
rides with qualifies male and female leaders are also

Dragon Savers
Every Monday between 9:30am and 10:30am Dragon Savers
Credit Union is open at Cymmer ward Community First
office, 70 High St, Cymmer. Its local convenient, easy
to use and open to anyone.
With a credit union you can:
Save easily – adult members pay just £1
membership to join and at least £1 to open an account,
then its up to you. Junior accounts have no membership
fee or minimum savings amount

PACT Meetings
The next Cymmer Ward Police and Communities Together
(PACT) meeting will be on 4th February 2010, 6:30pm at
the Dai Davies Community Centre (behind the Thai
Elephant restaurant). The purpose of these meetings is
to create an environment where the Police, Public and
other agencies come together to address issues in your
community. Your assistance and enthusiasm is needed. The
Cymmer ward PACT meeting's are held the first Thursday
of every month, same time, same location.

provided so that you can speak to your local officers
about local issues, not for reporting crimes and
incidents.

Dai Davies Art Club The ever popular Dai Davies Art Club has restarted in partnership with Cymmer
Ward Communities First. If your a beginner or a Picasso
then go along and enjoy an afternoon of painting and
drawing. The group meets every Friday at the Dai Davies
Community Centre, Cymmer from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. No
previous experience is required and refreshments and
some limited equipment are available free of charge.

Walking Your Way To Health in Cymmer The walking to health scheme is being run to encourage
people to start taking some regular exercise as part
of a group with the support of a walk leader. The
scheme is not just about exercise and its associated
benefits but also a chance to meet new people and
enjoy the beautiful environment in which we live.
Cymmer Ward Communities First run the walking scheme,
with the help from volunteers, every Friday, 10:30am
from outside the Rhondda Heritage Park museum,
Trehafod. We walk in rain or shine so please feel free
to join in these very friendly and easy going walks.
We continually need volunteer walk leaders. After
attending a one day volunteer walk leader training
session, you will receive full support and a
certificate of accreditation. If you think you can

to be a volunteer walk leader but would like to know
